The first Miscellany was launched in 1986 and was the idea of Brynmor Voyle, then chairman of the Llanelli branch. John Edwards, who edited fifteen editions of the Miscellany, writes in his history of the Llanelli W.E.A.: ‘It was called Miscellany/ Amrywiaeth, for that was what it was, a miscellany, or variety of articles on local history, short stories and poetry.’
Many people have collected Miscellany over the last thirty years, and back copies are now much sought after.
We are fortunate in Llanelli to have a number of dedicated historians who research and record Llanelli’s past. There are also many talented writers, poets and song-writers who contribute regularly.
My aim, on becoming editor in 2011, was to maintain the ethos of Miscellany and raise the profile of the periodical, both locally and nationally, in Wales.
Miscellany is supported by the Llanelli Historical Society, Llanelli Rural Council and the Llanelli Town Council.
Stockists are: Barrie Lewis – Llanelli Market, Llanelli Library, Llanelly House, New Dock Road Post Office, Furnace Post Office, The Discovery Centre – North Dock, Pembrey Country Park Visitor Centre, Parc y Bocs Farm Shop – Kidwelly.
